Giggles

Wow - 5 months is an absolutely in-excusable amount of time to not blog!  I suppose that life has gotten crazy and time flies by when you are having fun!

I wanted to share these 2 videos that I captured recently.  It seems that we can ever get our son, Michael to laugh “on cue”.  This day, my husband was goofing around and found himself and Michael in un expected stitches!

Such great moments, memories being made… and SO MUCH FUN along the way!

Enjoy,

The Adventures of Michael's Dedication

I thought that I would take a moment to write down a memory that I am sure will lose it’s humor and details over the years… but in this moment is vivid and funny.  The adventures we have with babies in tow are always surprising and keep me guessing.
Things around here have been pretty busy in the past few days.   Yesterday was my son Michael’s dedication and went off without a hitch, well as much so as anyone can expect with my husband Sean and I first time parents and a 4 month old!
In an effort to have a content baby for his dedication I left our church service 15 minutes before it ended to get Michael from nursery and feed him.  As we all know, a full baby is ALWAYS a happier baby.  Leave it to me to leave my sticker to retrieve Michael with my husband.  You see our church has very strict childcare facility security, and I needed this sticker to be able to retrieve him.  We attend a very large church with 3 venues each holding 2 services a Sunday, so the childcare cannot know every parent without their child’s code.  After pleading with the woman to not make me go back into the service (Sean was sitting in the very front of the sanctuary!), showing my i.d. and answering some security questions they finally let me get Michael out.
After an uneventful lunch for him, a diaper change and some burping, we were all set for the dedication service to start.  Thanks to my sister in law’s genius, we got everyone’s seats in the front row for better pictures and videos (soon to come).  Michael fell asleep in my arms waiting for his turn and all was well… or so I thought!
Right before we went up, Michael unloaded a rather large and smelly package into his diaper for me.  Having no time to change him, I stood, holding in the giggles as the smell wafted around us and the Pastor as he asked us a few questions and prayed for Michael.  It was a humorous moment for Sean and I, bettered by the fact that Michael tried to pull down my top while we were up in front of everyone as well.  Thankfully we kept the giggles (and my bosom) all hidden away and made it through his dedication in one piece.
After a few more photos and some hugs, we all parted ways at the church and it was off to the races again for us, as we still had a family dinner and a wedding shower to attend to.  Needless to say, the day ended with many great memories and 3 very tires members of my family!
Who would have thought that a baby dedication could be so chaotic, fun and exhillerating?
Ahhhh the fun never ends around here…
Cheers!

p.s. I just read this latest instalment of my blog aloud to Michael (my 4 month old), as he sits here chewing a hanging Tigger toy attached to his vibrating chair (what a life!).  Michael jabbered away as I read to him, I would like to assume that my child is a baby genius and he was commenting on my wonderful writing abilities.  Unfortunately, reality has a better grasp on me, so I will assume that he was just talking with Tigger.  Although if he could talk, I am sure he would be asking me to pass on his hellos to all of you who faithfuly read me!  Thank you for your support -

Photo Shoot on a Budget

So far we have only had 2 months to play around with this idea - but the goal is to keep doing this until he is 12 months old.

I just couldn't resist sharing my sweet little man with you all!

We were given this HUGE giraffe (whom we have named George), when my son was born.  I was in love with it as it is so adorable and huge, but I didn't know how to use it just yet.  Then the idea donned on me to take a Month by Month photo of my son with George to track his growth!

I decided that I did not want to pay to have his photos taken every month (can you say EXPENSIVE?!), but I really wanted to have a nice photo to capture each month’s growth and changes... I had a dilemma on my hands for sure.  So I turned on my “frugal” cap, and came up with an easy, quick and free solution!

Month 1

Month 2

We were given these great month by month stickers (found at www.pickysticky.com ) as a gift when I was pregnant.  These are FABULOUS!  I love them more than anything, as they make a perfect way to capture these moments.  They are truly made to be put onto a onesie, but I want to have the option to reuse them, so I simply keep them on their backing and place them into the photo.

The rest was easy; I use the comforter from my bed and drape it over the couch for a free but good backdrop.  It is a good neutral color and keeps each month’s photos consistent. All that is left to do is to put my little man into the home made “photo studio” and start taking pictures!

It is truly so easy, and I think they are turning our great!  I used the Picsa photo editor (free download online if you’re looking for a GREAT photo editor), and made these collages.

Needless to say, I can’t wait each month to set up another photo shoot and have fun with my little man capturing his growth!

These photos already melt my heart; I can’t imagine how invaluable they will be to me in the years to come J

Hope you enjoyed, and I can’t wait to hear from you on other photo ideas you have done at home!  I love taking pictures and can always use a new idea or 2!

Cheers,

Bek

Before I was a Mum, I was published...

Back before I was a Mum on maternity leave, or off work due to medical complications with my pregnancy I worked full time as a Business Development Manager / Media and Social Media for a wonderful company.
I am quickly learning that it is important to still do the things that I love, even though my days are typically consumed by dirty diapers, feeding, throw up, crying and baby talk!  I am working to spend a few moments each day for myself.  Yes!  This often means that I finally get to take a shower, or update my blog here, but it is important none the less.
I was thinking the other day, of some articles I had published… a very proud moment for me!  So I thought I would share them with you, little by little over the next few posts.  Sometimes I find that bragging about accomplishments is what keeps ya’ motivated to achieve more!
Part of my daily tasks when I was working full time, was to look at (and help our company properly use) different social media sites.  In doing this I decided to start up a blog on the topic.  It quickly became very popular and I was asked if I would write some articles to be published.  Of course I readily agreed!
Here is a 3 part series I did on the proper use of Linked In…
I hope that you enjoy them, and I would love to hear your feedback.  I had many other articles published as well, and would love to share them with you over another few blog posts here.
If you are interested, feel free to hop on over and take a read of my social media blog here: http://rebekah-socialmedia.blogspot.com/
I would be DELIGHTED to help any of you with any social media questions you may have.  Feel free to ask away!  For business or personal use I find the power of free advertising amazing (and am ALWAYS happy to talk about it!).
Cheers,
Bek

The 4 Month Countdown

I have a confession to make, I am a Christmas FANATIC!  I love nothing more each year than the Christmas music, parties, baking, sending and receiving of cards, gift wrapping, snow… I just love everything about the season!  And today I came to the realization that CHRISTMAS IS IN EXACTLY 4 MONTHS!
I don’t know how many of you are this excited for Christmas each year, but I start looking forward to the next Christmas just days after the current one has passed!
Being frugal, means lots of pre work, but BOY – OH – BOY does it save us so much money and stress each year!  I always want to be sure that are gifts are thoughtful, and well received.  I want the baking to be fresh and delicious and I always want to be sure that I mail a Christmas card to each and every person that is important in our lives.  Being from a large family, we typically have between 20 – 30 gifts to buy each year, 5 – 10 Christmas parties or gatherings to attend and bring food too and very little free time during the month of December.
This year is am SUPER OVER THE TOP REDUCILOUSLY EXCITED because it is my first Christmas as a parent!  I know that my son will only be 7 months old, but I cannot wait to start traditions, play Santa and watch him experience his first Christmas.  I have literally been dreaming of being a parent at Christmas since I was small.
With all of this business and Holiday Cheer, it can be a task to stay on budget, on time and full of the holiday spirit.  So, here are a few tips that I find helpful in staying organized and on budget for each Christmas:
·         In everything I do to prepare for Christmas I crank the Christmas Music or pop in a Christmas DVD.  This always helps me to stay cheerful and in the spirit of the season.  Plus My husband has mead a rule that Christmas music may only be played during the month of December each year!

·         I buy all of my wrapping and cards for the next Christmas during the boxing week sales right after the current Christmas passes.  I cannot say that I have EVER paid full price for any of these items!  I have a gift / craft / wrapping room in my basement where I keep all of my pre bought gifts and wrapping organized and ready to use all year long.  It is quite possibly my favourite room in the house!

·         I start writing out my Christmas cards at the beginning of November.  This allows me the time to make each one personal and special – without feeling rushed (or cramping my hand)!

·         I start buying gifts all year long!  What better place to start buying gifts than the days after the current Christmas?  I watch for sales all year, and pick up items for people as I see them on sale.  This saves us a BUNDLE of money in the end, and allows me to spread out our shopping over a year’s worth of pay cheques.  It also means that I usually miss the Christmas rushes at the mall, as I am always sure to be DONE my shopping by the beginning of December.

·         We always buy our Christmas décor items on sale after Christmas time.  I store all of our Christmas items during the year anyways, so why pay full price?  I got our 8 foot pre lit Christmas tree for 75% off with a pre lit wreath and storage bag this way!  Because I want to have a house full of festive items at Christmas time, this is the way I can afford to do it.

·         I start baking at the beginning of December (sometimes the end of November).  Baking generally freezes really well!  So I bake an item every time I have a chance.  As long as your freeze them in separate containers, everything turns out tasting fresh and not like the other baking!

·         I start wrapping gifts as soon as they are completely purchased.  There is nothing worse than a mad dash to wrap all the gifts the night before!  I always want our gifts to look like they have been wrapped with care.  As I mentioned I am always done buying gifts by the beginning of Dec, and they are all typically wrapped at least 1 week before Christmas.

·         I start stocking up on appetizers and finger foods early.  I love the frozen boxes of gourmet this and that, but they can get expensive.  As they go on sale, I stock up.  It makes taking food to events a breeze and I don’t have to think about what to get!  It is also super handy for those surprise visitors around the Holidays!
Jheesh!  All this Christmas talk is getting me excited already and it isn’t even Thanksgiving or Halloween yet!
If you have any tips or tricks that you use to stay on budget, time and in the spirit during the holidays, please let me know!  I am always looking for a new tip or trick to make the Holidays great!
I would also love to hear any tips you have on making Baby’s First Christmas memorable!
Have a great day, and happy 4 month countdown!

Friday Morning Funnies with Autocorrect!

I thought I would take a moment to pass on to you all a website that I can't get enough of - enjoy a laugh on me today :)
So a Girlfriend of mine was laughing hysterically when I arrived for a visit one day.  Naturally, I took a peek over her shoulder to see what was so funny  on her laptop.  It was this website called www.damnyouautocorrect.com
This website is a collection of I phone auto corrections that can really alter what a person is trying to say!  For the next 20 minutes we stood there, reading through hundreds of text messages people had sent that had been auto corrected!
Here are a few that I found funny… but if you want a good laugh this morning head on over to the website and have a look yourself!
TGIF!
